Bishop Green is the son of the late Reverend and Mrs. Henry E. and Irene W. Green, born on August 31st in Tampa, Florida. His late parents nurtured Bishop Green in strong religious and moral values. This early Christian influence on his life contributed to his early entry into the gospel ministry.

He began his preaching ministry at the age of seventeen. After graduating high school, he enrolled at the University of South Florida. He later earned a Master of Divinity degree with a focus in Christian Education and Ministries of the Church from Turner Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary.

Bishop Green pastored St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church in Orlando, Florida, where he served from 1988 to 2004. Under his direction, the church added a daycare facility and family life center, which housed the church's preparatory school. In honor of his dedication to furthering God's kingdom, the church renamed the Family Life Center the Samuel L. Green Sr. Family Life Center during his final month there.

After 19 years of progressive, productive, and proactive ministry as a pastor, at the 47th Quadrennial Session of the African Methodist Episcopal Church General Conference, held in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was elected and consecrated the 125th Bishop in the line of succession in the history of the African Methodist Episcopal Church since Bishop Richard Allen.

He currently serves as the Presiding Prelate of the Seventh Episcopal District. Since he arrived in 2016, he has engaged the District in the ministry of doing church differently. He has led the Episcopal District in church growth, spiritual awakening, and renewal. Bishop has invested heavily in theological education for all pastors and lay people. He founded Dickerson-Green Theological Seminary in 2017. The school has graduated over 30 students in its first years of existence. Bishop continues to lead the state with spirit filled enthusiasm. In addition, he led the state in the purchase of a 218-acre Conference Center. God has filled him with the wisdom to lead and shepherd his people.
