Dr. Young was assigned as the Presiding Elder of the Orangeburg District in 2016 by Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr. Bishop Green merged the three Presiding Elder districts of the Central South Carolina Annual Conference into two districts at the 98th Session: Midlands and the Santee. He assigned Dr. Young to the Midlands District.  

Dr. Young is married to the former Sandra Archer, and together they have two children: Charlotte (Shola) and Christopher, and two grandchildren, Tolu and Israel. He is a native of Georgetown County, South Carolina, and was educated in Georgetown County public schools.    

After serving two years in the United States Army, his desire to improve himself led him to Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  However, after his conversion and receiving the call to preach, he set aside his pursuit of medical science and enrolled at Columbia International University, Columbia, South Carolina, where he earned the Master of Divinity. He later earned a Doctoral degree in Urban Anthropology from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  

His professional career includes President of Allen University, Professor of Urban Church planting, and Christian Theology at Columbia International University.  He participated in several overseas church planting tours where he led seminary students in urban research in major US and overseas cities.  

Dr. Young served as a pastor in the Seventh Episcopal District for several years. His pastoral ministry focused on church growth, discipleship training, and developing ministries to serve the elderly and youth. During his pastoral ministry, he led his congregations in capital improvements, community development, housing initiatives, and economic development. He has worked extensively with persons with chemical dependency and other life crises.  

Dr. Young’s lifelong goal has been to improve the lives of those he serves and to add value to all who cross his path.
